The upgrade of the rail network to allow larger freight into the City of Edinburgh - EmcL/WCM4 gauge enhancements removal of OB 023 Peffermill Bridge.
The work package covers the removal of Peffermill Road Bridge over-rail infrastructure within three 10 hrs. possessions. Phase I included the removal of steel beam with brick jack arch and 300mm thick concrete slab with asphalte finish road.
Phase II to include removal of sandstone masonry butts with brick arch to be carried out at a later date.
Traffic Management put in place to reduce traffic to one lane, allowing for one lane safety zone
Install track protection over two lines and cables.
Extreme care to be taken of existing utility services, fibre-optic communication cables and new bridge consruction immediately adjacent to demolition environment.
Access site with two 30T demolition rigs.
Remove sandstone abutments and reduce road make up.
Remove concrete slab and brick jack arch.
Access site with 220T crane, with man basket
Hot cut & lift out steel beams onto transport, haul-off site for recycle. Remove cranes from site.
Access site with 30T demolition rigs, load all material to transport, haul off site for recycle.
Remove track protection.
Carry out inspections of areas of works open line for rail traffic.
Removal of bridge and all materials within agreed time constraints with no accidents or incidents
Demolition materials were disposed of to licensed recycle site.
